Hi! I’m Mel, a self-taught artist creating a mixture of digital and traditional art. I live in Exmouth in the UK with my pet rats, and take refuge in creating. I enjoy creating portraits of both people and animals, but most of my inspiration is derived from the serene seascapes and countryside around me here in Devon. I’ve found a therapy in painting these sea and landscapes.
I consider myself an advocate for using art for mental wellbeing, through both creating and observing it. I struggle on a day to day basis with my mental health, and both the company of my rats and creating art have helped me to keep looking ahead to the light, even when it’s near impossible to see it through the thick fog of darkness. While it can oftentimes feel impossible to be creative when you’re in that dark despairing place, I do believe that creating is truly one of the best things we can do when we’re in it.
I hope you find beauty and solace in the art I’ve created and displayed for you today. Please feel free to browse the shop for any pieces you might like for your own walls, to bring joy and tranquility to your world at home.
